Lawrence West (TTC)

Lawrence West is an above-ground subway station in Toronto. It lies on the Yonge- University - Spadina line of the Toronto Subway, at the corner of Allen Road and Lawrence Avenue. The station, which has a central platform, is used daily by an average of 20,560 passengers (2009 /10). There are Umsteigemöghlichkeiten to five bus lines, including the Toronto airport. The opening of the station took place on 28 January 1978 together with the section between St. George and Wilson.

The station is located in the median strip of Allen Road, a multi-lane feeder to Highway 401, under the bridge of Lawrence Avenue. The enclosed platform area is additionally bridged by a terminal loop with stops zone. Glass walls and wide staircases accentuate the openness of the station, the glass is surrounded by a characteristic orange metal mesh. Orange framed skylights in the roof platform to come up with natural light; the benches are prism- shaped and consist of yellow, orange and brown tiles. Similar tiles adorn the floor and the center pier. For the design of the architectural firm Dunlop Farrow Aitken was responsible. Spacing ... Aerial Highways, a 90 -meter-long tile mural by Claude Breeze, adorns the lobby at the Lawrence Avenue.

Due to the prevailing around petty crime, the newspaper Toronto Star called the station Lawrence West as a " known problem area ".
