Goldman Environmental Prize

The Goldman Environmental Prize is one of the most important environmental awards in the world.

It is awarded annually since 1990 to six " environmental heroes" of the grassroots movement. Rewarded a prize winner from Africa, Asia, Europe, Islands and Island States, from North America and from South and Central America, respectively. Some of islands also be attributed to the nearest continent, for example, Japan or Ireland to Asia to Europe.

Originally the price was valued at 60,000 dollars, now the prize money of $ 150,000. In addition to this cash prize each winner receives a bronze sculpture depicting the Ouroboros. Was donated to the price of the U.S. entrepreneur Richard Goldman ( Goldman Insurance Services ) and his wife Rhoda.
