Göllingen is a municipality in the Thuringian Kyffhaeuser country Kyffhaeuser circle.

Göllingen lies in the valley of the Wipper between the ridge of the Windleite and Hainleite, near the county town Sondershausen. Two miles further down the river Wipper, is located in the so-called Seega Wipper breakdown, in which the Wipper cuts through the crest of the Hainleite.

History

First mention and special features

At the beginning of the 9th century Göllingen was first mentioned in a list of the Archbishop of Lull († 786) of Mainz awarded for the Hersfeld Abbey of outdoor goods as Gell Inge. The story Göllingens is connected to the Benedictine monastery founded in the 11th century Göllingen.

During World War II prisoners of war from France and 40 men and women from Poland and the Soviet Union had to perform on the domain, and among farmers forced labor.

On December 31, 2012, the municipality Göllingen merged with other municipalities in the administrative community Kyffhaeuser to the municipality Kyffhaeuser country.

Buildings and Water

Monastery

Göllingen is known by the monastery Göllingen with his 16 -pillar crypt. Experts believe that one finds similar buildings only in southern countries. The Benedictine monastery dates back to the 11th century. It was founded circa 1012 from the Abbey Hersfeld, why Göllingen later was a Hessian exclave. 1606 the monastery was dissolved by the Landgrave of Hessen, after they had introduced the Reformation. It then served to the handover of the territory of Hesse at Castle Black in 1816 as a Hessian domain. During this time, the monastery fell more and more to ruin. Each autumn takes place regularly, the monastery tower hard. The tower and the crypt can be visited.

Church

Not far from the monastery tower is the Protestant church, which was built in 1722 as a baroque hall construction. In the churchyard there are numerous historic grave stones, some dating from the 11th and 12th centuries.

Wipper tunnel

The Small Wipper, an arm of the Wipper, was led by former monks at a length of 430 meters through a tunnel. It was first documented in 1404.

Events

Every year on the second weekend in September, the monastery tower festival in Göllingen instead. The three-day village festival takes place at the foot of the monastery tower in the historical center of Göllingen instead. In a tent and on an outdoor stage various musical contributions are offered. The menu features typical barbecue specialties, such as the famous Thuringian roster or local specialties such as Fettbemmen with herb salt.

Economy and infrastructure

Farms

Are predominant agriculture and handicrafts. Göllingen is a former mineworkers of the potash industry, but of minor importance ( former union Günther Hall ). In GDR times, there was the nationally significant state-owned enterprise (VEB) Inducal Göllingen. Since 2012 is located on the west of the village situated and until then unused industrial area a solar park.

Traffic
