Gordon R. Sullivan

Gordon Russell Sullivan ( born September 25, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts ) is a retired general of the United States Army.

Biography

After schooling, he studied history at Norwich University and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA History) from. He then joined the U.S. Army and in 1969 was graduated from the Command and General Staff College, and later the Army War College. He also completed post-graduate studies in political science at the University of New Hampshire, which he finished in 1974 with a Master of Arts (MA Political Science ).

1983 to 1985 he was deputy commander of the U.S. Army Armor School at Fort Knox. After use as Deputy Commander of the Command and General Staff College from 1987 to July 1988, he was following as a major general in July 1989 to commander of the 1st Infantry Division "The Big Red One ," in Würzburg. After that, he was Deputy Chief of Army Staff for operation and planning. Between 1990 and 1991 he was Vice Chief of Staff of the Army before he was then as General Chief of Staff of the Army, and thus the highest ranking officer in the United States Army on 21 June 1991 to 20 June 1995. In 1995 he retired.

After his retirement, he was the U.S. Army further connected as a board member of the Institute for Defense Analyses, and since 1998 as President and Chief Operating Officer ( COO ) of the Association of the U.S. Army. Sullivan is also a member of the Board of Newell Rubbermaid and Chairman of the Board of Trustees ( Trustee Chairman ) of Norwich University.

In 1996, he was next to Michael V. Harper co-author of the book " Hope Is Not A Method".
