Gostyń County

The powiat Gostyński is a powiat ( county ) in the south of Poland Greater Poland Voivodeship. Seat of the district is the county town of the circle associated Gostyń. The neighboring counties are in the north of Sremski powiat, in the northeast of the powiat Jarocinski, east of the powiat Krotoszynski, in the south Rawicki powiat, in the west powiat Leszczynski and the northwest of the powiat Koscianski.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​810.34 km ² in which 75 684 inhabitants. The population density is 93 inhabitants / km ² ( 2004).

Tourist destinations are:

  • The most frequently visited by tourists place is the Holy Mountain ( Święta Góra ). There is a church and a monastery of the Oratory of St Philip Neri. The basilica was built from 1675 to 1728. The church is known for the cult of the miracle painting of Our Lady with the Child Jesus, which was given to the church in 1542. Estimates put the annual 100,000 pilgrims from all over Poland.
