Gotse Delchev

Georgi Nikolov Delchev Gotse Delchev called ( Bulgarian Георги Николов Делчев, or Гоце Делчев, 1945 Гоце Дѣлчевъ; * 23 Januarjul / February 4 1872greg in Kukus (today Kilkis ); † May 4, 1903 in Banitza ( Today. .: Karie ) was a revolutionary and is considered a leading figure in the BMARK ( Bulgarian Macedonian - Adrian Opeler Revolutionary committees / Български Македоно - Одрински революционни комитети, later renamed the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization ). in his honor, the Bulgarian city Newrokop was renamed in Gotse Delchev.

Life

Gotse Delchev was the son of Nikola Delchev and Sultana Nurdschiewa Deltschewa. He attended the Bulgarian Men's High School St. Cyril and Methodius in Thessaloniki. After his leave he went in 1891 to the military academy in Sofia, from which he was dismissed, however, a little later because of " socialist activities" in the monarchist Bulgaria dishonorable. In 1894 he went as a teacher of the Bulgarian language by Stip, where he met Lady Gruew, the Delchev brought for the first time in contact with the BMARK. 1895 Delchev became its chairman. Delchev was killed on May 4, 1903 during a confrontation with the Ottoman police. 43 years after his funeral, his body was exhumed in 1946, handed over to Macedonia and buried in a sarcophagus in Skopje.

Delchev is today regarded as one of the national hero in Bulgaria and Macedonia. He is mentioned among others in the Macedonian national anthem. Both nations see in Delchev a " national hero." Delchev himself fought and died for the liberation of a Bulgarian Macedonia from the Ottomans. One of his most famous quotes:

His companion and close friend Pejo Jaworow wrote the first biography of Delchev 1904. The Macedonian Cultural Association in Russian bears his name.
