Gračanica, Kosovo

Gracanica ( Serbian Cyrillic Грачаница; Albanian Graçanica or Graçanicë ) is a city and headquarters of the eponymous large village in eastern Kosovo near Pristina. It counts 19,400 inhabitants (as of 2011).

A large village of Gracanica was established on 1 January 2010 before heard their territory to Pristina, Lipjan and Fushë Kosova. 85.7 % of the population are Serbs, Albanians 3.7% and 10.6 % belong to other ethnic groups (as of 2011).

The Serbian Orthodox monastery of Gracanica is one of the most famous sights of Kosovo and since 2006 a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, it is on the red list of endangered world heritage.

The city is known for its Serb majority population as a Serbian enclave in central Kosovo. Through a boycott of the Kosovo government exclave is cut off from access to the Serbian mobile networks (as of August 2013).
