The Grand Échezeaux is classified as grand cru vineyard in the Côte -d'Or in the Burgundy region in France. It is located in the town of Flagey -Echezeaux, has an area of 9.14 hectares and its own appellation. Produced exclusively red wine.

Location, climate and soil

The Grand Échezeaux is on a slightly rising in the east slope from 250 to 260 m above sea level. In the north it borders the vineyard Musigny, northeast, the Clos de Vougeot known position and west of the Échezeaux closes and the south is the Premier Cru Les Suchots. The southeast region's vineyards are sold as a simple village wines under the name Vosne -Romanée. It consists of a large number of parcels that share almost 21 owners. The largest shares have the domains Domaine de la Romanée- Conti ( 3.53 ha), Mongeard - Mugneret (1.44 ha ) and Jean -Pierre Mugneret / Jean -René Naudant (0.90 ha).

The climate is associated with the Burgundian transitional climate, outweigh the continental influences over maritime. The mostly dry and hot summer, let the Pinot noir mature though, great vintages emerge only when there is no rain in the fall affects the reading. Due to the pure east facing the micro-climate is relatively cool but very sunny. Situated right between the cuts of the Combe d' Orveaux and the Combe de Concoeur, the Grand Échezeaux is being protected from nocturnal fall winds and late frosts.

The underbody of the document is on Comblanchien limestone. The brown, clayey - calcareous soil layer of the Grand Échezeaux is relatively low. The numerous limestone store the heat of the day and radiate it at night back to the vines from.

Wine

The Grand Échezeaux is generally produced exclusively from Pinot Noir. As another Pinot and Pinot Liébault Beurot are allowed. Theoretically, up to 15 % white grapes ( Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc) are used. The natural alcohol content must be at least 11.5 percent by volume. The Chaptalisation is - as everywhere in Burgundy - allowed. The base yield is 35 hectoliters per hectare per year, may be exceeded by a maximum of 20%. From 2003 to 2007 278 hectoliters per year were produced from this vineyard in the middle. These are 30.4 hl / ha. This provides this Grand Cru good 36,200 bottles per year.
