Grathem is a village in the municipality Leudal the Dutch province of Limburg and is located 10 kilometers west of Roermond. It is a parish and former municipality with about 1760 inhabitants in the municipality Leudal (as of 1 January 2006).

History

Grathem belonged for centuries to the land of Thorn, which included also the places Thorn, Ittervoort, Beersel, Haler, Baexem, Oler, Ell and Stramproy. It was not until 1818, the districts Kelpen and Oler the community Grathem have been assigned.

Grathem was liberated on November 17, 1944 by the Allies.

The next local government reform in 1991 brought Grathem with the municipalities and the municipality Baexem Heythuysen to one administrative unit. 2007, the municipality Heythuysen was incorporated in the municipality Leudal.
