Greece men's national volleyball team

The Greek national volleyball team of men is a selection of the best Greek player who represents the Greek Association Elliniki Omospondia Petosferiseos ( Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Πετοσφαίρισης ) in international tournaments and international matches.

History

World cup

Greece was in 1994 as host for the first time while at a volleyball World Cup and managed sixth place his best World Cup result. 1998, there was only enough for 13th place, four years later, the result was again better than seventh. At the 2006 World Cup, the Greeks were not about rank 17 out.

Olympic games

At the 2004 Games in their own country Greece was represented so far only time and finished fifth. For Beijing 2008, the Greeks could not qualify.

European

In his first participation in a European Volleyball Championship in 1967, Greece was the worst of twenty teams. Four years later, it was not much better with 18th place. After two missed the tournament the Greeks occupied the last place in 1979 again, this time under twelve participants. 1983 ( Ninth ) and 1985 ( seventh), it was the first time placements in the top ten. In the four EM appearances between 1989 and 1997, the results were similar. After the Greeks were missing three times before she finished sixth celebrated their biggest success in the tournament in 2005. At Euro 2007, there was with the 13th place but one of the worst results.

World Cup

Greece has never been at the World Cup.

World League

In 1993, the Greeks played the first time in the World League and occupied eleventh place. After finishing seventh (1994) and nine ( 1995) they were again in 1996 eleventh. After a one year break in 1998 there were in twelfth the worst result. 2001 returned the Greeks back in ninth place, which they reached in 2002. The next year, they escalated to seventh place before they achieved their best result in fifth place in 2004. By the seventh rank, they adopted in 2005 from the World League.

Europe League

In 2006, the Greeks for the first time at the Europa League and were in part the same third party. In 2007, she occupied the eighth place. In the 2008 competition, they parted after the group matches against Great Britain, the Netherlands, Portugal and Slovakia and occupied the sixth place.
