Greenwich Island

Greenwich Iceland ( historical names Sartorius Iceland, Berezina Iceland ) is an island in the South Shetland Islands. It has a length of 24 km, a width of 0.8 to 10 miles and has an area of ​​173.8 km ². It lies in the southern group of the archipelago between Robert Iceland in the North East and Livingston Iceland in the southwest and is separated from the latter by the English and the McFarlane Street. The highest elevation of the island is heavily glaciated of the 625 m high peak Momchil.

The Chilean research station Arturo Prat and Pedro Vicente Maldonado, the Ecuadorian station located at the Discovery Bay in the northeast of the island.

The term Greenwich Iceland dates back to 1821 or even earlier and has established itself as the common name of the island.
