Geography

Griebo located in the Natural Park flaming at the mouth of the creek Grieboer in the Elbe ( the creek rises in the northern flaming in the district Cobbelsdorf ). The city Coswig (Anhalt) is located west in the immediate neighborhood, east borders the district of Wittenberg Apollensdorf to Griebo.

History

1201 appeared Griebo the first time in a document. From this period dates the late Romanesque St. John's church in the village, which was used in particular in the period around the Thirty Years' War as a fortified church, as Griebo was on a highway and was often plundered.

In 1936 the prison camp "Elbe regulation post Griebo at Coswig (Anhalt )" was set up for 400 prisoners. This included 150 prisoners who have been housed on a barge called " Beaver". Economic purpose was the dredging of gravel from the stream bed of the Elbe. Thus the river bed should be deepened and as the improvement of inland navigation are possible. To the same regulation bearing Griebo belonged from 1939, the prison camp of Dessau. Overall, the same regulation bearing Griebo among these sub-camps:

1944, three female prisoners were interned in the camp. One of these women was Irene Seiler, who was sentenced to several years' imprisonment for alleged racial defilement.

The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg Kommunalheraldiker Jörg Mantzsch in 2001 and led to the approval process.

The flag of the former municipality Griebo is silver ( white ) blue ( 1:1) striped ( Hissflagge: stripes running vertically; cross flag: stripes running horizontally ). The coat of arms of the municipality Griebo is centrally placed on the flag.

  • The motorway connection Coswig on the A 9 Berlin - Munich is about 8 km away.

Rail transport

The railway line Roßlau-Falkenberg/Elster about Lutherstadt Wittenberg has a breakpoint in Griebo. At the breakpoint Griebo there are hourly the possibility, at Dessau, and further in the direction of Halle (Saale ) and Leipzig or in the opposite direction to Lutherstadt Wittenberg - to drive Anna Castle. The Griebo station is approached runs regularly from regional trains of DB Regio.

Bus
