The station Groningen Noord ( Noorderstation ) is a railway station in the northern Dutch town of Groningen, near the neighborhoods Selwerd and Tuinwijk.

History

In 1884 the railway between Groningen and Delfzijl - opened. At the distance of Groningen holding SS station was built, which was later renamed in Groningen Noord. 1893 the railway between Groningen - Roodeschool was opened and trains to Roodeschool now also held at North Station. Both routes are now traveled by Arriva with railcars by Stadler Rail. From 1922 to 1938 and briefly in 1940 the station was also used by trains of the railway line Winsum - Zoutkamp.

To make the area in the north west of the city better from downtown reachable, the station was moved to a viaduct. The viaduct was opened in 1974. The Noorderstationsstraat since then passes under the station.

Renewals

2006, the renovation of the station Groningen Noord began under the name Selwerd Spoort. The end of 2006 a part of the platform has been renewed it.
