Gruiten–Köln-Deutz railway

The railway line Gruiten -Cologne- Deutz is one of the most important and busiest railway lines in Germany. It is part of the southern major axis of the rail passenger and long-distance transport between Wuppertal and Cologne, among others traveled by Intercity-Express, InterCity, Regional-Express and regional trains.

The track is classified as a main course and throughout with catenary. The last date single-track section between station Köln -Mülheim and station Köln Messe / Deutz ( deep) is currently being expanded to double track as the rest of the way.

History

The route was developed by the Bergisch- Märkischen Railway ( BME) after the acquisition of the Dusseldorf - Elberfeld Railway Company built as a branch of the railway line Dusseldorf -Elberfeld. It should be used as a link to their main network in southern and central Ruhr area at the railway junction Cologne, were present at the already Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft ( RhE ) and the Cologne -Minden Railway Company (CME ).

The BME began the construction of their new routes in Gruiten station, now threaded the route already almost two miles earlier at the tap point Linden from the distance of Wuppertal. The first section straight south over Ohligsberg Forest (later Ohligsberg and Solingen -Ohligs, today Solingen Hauptbahnhof) to Opladen was opened on 25 September 1867.

Since April 8, 1868, the track was to Mülheim station ( Rhine ) BME in operation, which was built east in close proximity to the existing station Mülheim (Rhein) CME at Wiener Platz. The route took it once straight through the center of Mülheim, almost identical with the modern evolution of line 4 of the Stadtbahn Köln (see also Railway in Cologne- Mülheim ).

After crossing the Cologne -Minden line the BME continued to build its route close to the Rhine and opened on 1 February 1872 passenger traffic up BME Deutz train station, a temporary railhead north of Deutz CME station. To 1878, the track was even connected via the route of the Cologne - Minden railway and the bridge over the Rhine at Cologne Main Station. However, this was discontinued after a short time because of high fees. In March 1881, the ending date outside of Deutz distance around 800 meters to the Deutz Cologne ship's bridge, the railway bridge of boats was extended and opened on 20 September 1882.

In 1909, the route was moved because of flood hazard up or lack of space in the Mülheim downtown and (Rhein) RhE, today formerly Mülheim ( Cologne -Mülheim ) runs parallel to the Rheinische route through the new station Mülheim / Rhein ( Buchheim ).

On August 8, 1949, in Schlebusch a serious accident occurred at a railroad crossing: A truck that carried holiday kids tried the level crossing still to cross, although the barriers joined ready. They were also closed well late. The D 99 recognized the truck. 18 people died, 12 were also injured.

Current situation

Today, the two Deutz railway stations together form a tower station, the Köln Messe / Deutz. Even if they act like a station for the passenger, they are still separate operating units.

While the Cologne railway station was from the Bergisch- Märkischen Messe / Deutz station ( deep) (abbreviation in operation Jobs Directory Lt Gen ), from the Cologne -Minden railway station of the Köln Messe / Deutz ( KKDZ ).

The 1989 built during the construction of separate railway line S platform is also an independent operating agency called Köln Messe / Deutz breakpoint ( KKDZB ) and at the same station Part of Cologne Central Station.

In early 2004 it was planned to start with the doubling of the 4 km long section between Cologne -Mülheim and Messe / Deutz in 2004. The completion should take place in late 2006. This should include three bridges extended and four overpasses are created.

The end of 2009 was taken on the last 1 km stretch between Cologne -Deutz and the branch Gummersbacher road the second track in operation. The loop between the branch and Cologne -Mülheim is about 5 km long and is conducted with the DB network route number 2660.
