Grüningen is a municipality in the district of Hinwil the canton of Zurich in Switzerland.

Coat of arms

Blazon

The lion as an animal on the coat of arms can be detected for the first time in 1370 on a seal. Probably the heraldic animal is due to the Hapsburg lions, because Grüningen 1274-1408 was Austrian. The green background indicates the name Grüningen. The coat of arms is also consistent with that of the later Zurich's bailiwick. All contemporary documents ( Crest Books, coats of arms, maps, seals, etc. ) show the lions on the green background.

Geography

The municipality is located on the northeastern edge of the panhandle in the criss-crossed by low hills and valley floor of the Zurich Highlands, between Panhandle and Bachtel. Highest point on average about 500 m above sea level. M. lying community is the Schlüssberg (554 m above sea level. M. ), the deepest point is 453 m above sea level. M. at the point where the Aabach leaving the municipality to Gossau ZH and at the same time changes its name to Green Inger Bach.

Neighboring municipalities are clockwise starting in the north: Gossau ZH and Bubikon; Hombrechtikon and Oetwil am See in the district of miles, as well as Egg in the district of Uster, with only about 380 meters common border.

The core of the municipality is the town of Green Willingen ( Stedtli ), which owns the municipal law since the Middle Ages. The two larger villages Binzikon and Itzikon lie immediately to the south east, respectively, of the core settlement. The villages Adletshausen ( Adletshusen ) and Bächelsrüti lie on the southeastern respectively northwestern outskirts of the village. Other settlements are hamlets and isolated farms, including Buechholz, Buel, Reipen, straightening fir, wood Husen and Niggenberg.

The population in Grüningen large majority of German.

Religion

December 31, 2011 consisted of 50.1 percent of the population of the Evangelical Reformed Church and 22.5 percent of the Roman Catholic Church.

In Grüningen there is also the Free Church Chrischona.

Policy

Community president is the party lots Susanna Jenny Rohrbach (as of 2014).

Members of the municipal council ( elections 2014): Walter Pfister (FDP), Sonja Schmid- Althaus (FDP ), Markus Hugger (SVP ), Marianne von Euw (SVP ), Rubino Marconi ( FDP) and Beat Wolfsperger (independent).

Traffic

From 1903 to 1950 Grüningen was due to the Wetzikon -mile track.

There are the following bus routes that are served by the transport company and Zurich Oberland ( VZO ):

From 1903 to 1950, the Wetzikon -mile track as tram through the town. Today there bus line runs Oetwil am See- Wetzikon of the transport services and Lake Zurich Oberland. The section of the main road in the formerly fixed part is called " Stedtligasse ". At the northeast side of the street are the inns bears and deer.
