The design of the coat of arms has its origins in the ideas of the French Revolution and to the slogan "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity " symbolize.

Geography

Egg ZH lies between the Greifensee and the panhandle and comprises the three villages Hinteregg, Egg and Esslingen. The community is complemented by the outdoor Wachten Rällikon, Inner and Usser - Vollikon, Lower Esslingen, pipe, Schaubigen, Eichholz, Neuhaus and Guldenen. The area is 1450 ha; of which 57.2 per 2007 agriculture, 23 % forest, 13.6 & 5.2 % settlement and traffic. The deepest points of the municipality lies in Rällikon to 437 m above sea level, the highest point in Chnabenhans to 843 m asl The total length of the boundary of the municipality is 22.5 km.

Population

As of January 1, 2013 8'319 lived in the village of Egg. Of these, 1,523 lived in Egg b, 5'118 in Egg, 1,736 in Esslingen and 16 in Guldenen ( Forch ). There are four schools in the municipality of Egg: Center, BüHiKi, Esslingen and advanced levels. Additionally the community since 1971 through a village library.

The community is connected through the Forchbahn at the Zurich S- Bahn network. The Forchbahn has six stops: Esslingen, Emmat, Long Meadow, Egg, Egg b and Neuhaus.

History

Early History

Grave finds from the late Bronze Age are the oldest evidence of human habitation in Egg.

Middle Ages

The first mention of Egg is found in a written in Latin deed of gift dated 27 January 775 In this letter, a landowner bequeathed his estate in Egg ( called Eccha ) the monastery of St. Gall. The church Egg is documented as Hofbesitz of the monastery of St. Gallen 885. 972 then acquired the monastery of Einsiedeln a freight complex in Egg. Einsiedeln in 1230 but lost his lands around the fief Grüningen, which includes Egg belonged to the monastery of St. Gall.
