Gruszewo

Gruszewo ( German Grüssow ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship. It belongs to the Gmina Białogard ( Belgard ) in the powiat Białogardzki.

Geographical location

Gruszewo is located seven kilometers south of Białogard on the branch line from Białogard by Rabino ( United Rambin ) in a wooded valley. Szczecin - - On the eastern boundary of the municipality, the railway line Berlin leads Danzig over, next stop is Białogard.

Name

The name " Grüssow " Wendish origin and is similar to the name of Birnbaum ( " Gruszą ").

History

Grüssow was once a fief of those of Hechthausen. 1649 Georg Hecht Hausen was the owner. Then was the site of one of Münchowsches fief, to the family of Kameke owner is in 1772. To place among 1780 the two outworks Birkhof and Friedrichshof, two sheepfolds, three farmers, three Kossäten, a schoolmaster, a forge and a pitcher.

1791 came the estate in the possession of those of Grelman, then at Bogislaw Ernst von Massow and to the Kruger family. 1849 was the place where the family Bugenhagen, descendants of the " Dr. Pommer " Johannes Bugenhagen. After 1870 /71 was given as the ownership of General August von Werder - in recognition of his services in the war.

In 1939 lived in Grüssow 377 inhabitants in 94 households, who worked mostly in agriculture. The village belonged until 1945 to the district Belgard ( Persante ) and for the civil registry district Lenzen in the District Court area Belgard. Last German incumbents were Mayor Otto Schulz, registrar Konrad Brunn and - in police services - Oberland hunters Daske from Boissin.

In early March 1945, the village was occupied by Soviet troops and drove the population. Grüssow came as Gruszewo in Polish hands and is now part of the rural community Białogard.

With the community Lenzen Grüssow formed the District Grüssow.

Church

Grüssow belonged until 1945 to the parish Lenzen, which formed the parish Lenzen with the parishes Boissin and Zarnefanz. It belonged to the church Belgard county in Pomerania church of the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union.

To the parish belonged Lenzen 1940 a total of 2019 members of the congregation.

Today Gruszewo is part of the parish ( Parafia ) Koszalin ( Koszalin ) in the Diocese of Pomerania - Greater Poland the Polish Evangelical-Augsburg Church.

School

Already in 1780 Grüssow had its own school. In 1928, 37 Grüssower children were enrolled in school.
