Guanajay

Guanajay is a city and a municipality in the Cuban province of Artemisa. By 2010, the municipality belonged to the defunct province of La Habana.

The city is located west and east of Mariel of Caimito. The settlement was officially founded in 1781.

The municipality counts 28 429 inhabitants in an area of 113 km ², which corresponds to a population density of 251.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The area is dominated by agriculture, are grown sugar cane and tobacco.

The municipality is divided into seven neighborhoods ( Barrio ): Cabriales, Chacón, Jobo, Norte, San Jose, Santa Ana and Sur. The municipality belonged until after the Cuban Revolution to the province of Pinar del Río.
