Guido Kratschmer

Guido Kratschmer ( born January 10, 1953, the Klotzenhof for large Heubach ) is a former German track and field athlete. He won at the 1976 Olympic Games silver medal in the decathlon in 1980 and improved the world record.

Life

In addition to the decathlon Kratschmer was a very good hurdler. In youth and junior level he was multiple German Champion in the all around and over the hurdles. In the adult area, he was from 1975 to 1980 six times in a row, German decathlon champion, in 1978, he also won the title over the hurdles.

Making his first appearance at a major international championship had Kratschmer at the European Championships 1974 in Rome, where he won the bronze medal with 8132 points. In 1976, he started over 60 meters hurdles at the European Indoor Championships in Munich, but did not have the lead out. In May, he set a new German record in the decathlon in Götzis. At the Olympic Games in Montreal, he then scored his greatest success. He again improved the German record and won behind the American Bruce Jenner the silver medal ( 8411 points, individual performances: 10.66 s - 7.39 m - 14.74 m - 2.03 m - 48.19 s - 14.58 s - 45.70 m - 4.60 m - 66.32 m - 4:29,1 min).

In July 1978, Kratschmer improved in Filderstadt -Bernhausen the European record 8498 points. At the European Championships in Prague, however, he was forced to retire hurt after the 100 -meter run. At the Olympic Spielen1980 in Moscow, he was unable to attend because of the boycott of the Federal Republic. In 1981, he won the European Cup. 1982 Kratschmer was at the European Championships in Athens Ninth ( 8015 points). The following year he again reached in Helsinki at the first World Championships in ninth place ( 8096 points). In Los Angeles in 1984 he took part in his second Olympic Games, reaching 8326 points in fourth place. At the European Championships in 1986 he was forced to retire after an injury in the long jump. In 1988, he wanted to qualify again for the Olympic Games in Seoul. But after tore the Achilles tendon at the German Championships in the 100 - meter race, he finished his career. In the winter of 1991/92 he tried his hand at bobsledding as a brakeman by Rudi Lochner, but failed to qualify for the Olympic Winter Games in Albertville.

Guido Kratschmer started for USC Mainz. At 1.86 meters tall, he weighed in his competition time 92 kg. He was elected in 1980 Sportsman of the Year by the Federal Republic of Germany, and received the 1981 Rudolf Harbig Memorial Award. Großheubach named 2011, a sports hall after him.

Kratschmer was a member from 1972, the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Mainz. He is a qualified farmer turned on his second chance high school and became a teacher of sports and biology, but did not occur in the teaching profession.
