Guilherme Franco

Guilherme Franco ( born November 25, 1946 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian percussionist, who has become known both in the field of jazz and world music.

Life and work

Franco moved to the United States, where he appeared with the American quartet of Keith Jarrett since 1974; later he was part of the Paul Winter Consort. In the early 1990s he was a member of Don Pullens African- Brazilian Connection. He has also recorded with Teresa Brewer, Lonnie Liston Smith, McCoy Tyner, Lonnie Liston Smith, Elvin Jones, Woody Shaw, Terumasa Hino, Carlos Garnett, Arthur Blythe, Lee Konitz, Gato Barbieri, Ivo Perelman and Oscar Castro Neves.

In addition, in 1981 in New York City founded a samba school and the Samba group Pe de Boi, which also appeared with David Byrne. In 1998 he took the solo album Capoeira: Legendary Music of Brazil, on which he played most of the instruments himself.
