The Guldfågeln Arena ( German Gold Bird Arena) is a football stadium in the Swedish town of Kalmar. Construction began on 12 December 2009 and the stadium in the first home of the 2011 season was opened against the Djurgårdens IF on April 11, 2011. Kalmar defeated the DIF before 11,852 spectators 3-2 gates. The Guldfågeln Arena is owned and new home stadium of the club Kalmar FF.

Background

History

During the first decade of the 21st century thoughts came on to a new stadium of the Kalmar FF. In the fall of 2006, the club finally published the final design for the to be constructed in the following years Arena. After an investment partner had been found with the real estate company Sveafastigheter, it was assumed that in February 2007 by a completion and the first game for the summer of 2008. Due to several complaints, in particular related to the participation of the Commune to the building, however, delayed the start of construction. In August 2008, the construction company Peab has been commissioned with the construction work, only a short time later, however, the next action was pending.

In March 2009, the Kammarrätt of Jönköping dismissed the last action, so that completion of the venue was promised by 2011. This decision has been appealed at the next instance, but the opposition rejected in July of the year by the Regeringsrätten. A week earlier, however Sveafastigheter was dropped out of the project, and thus a substitute for Peab as a construction company needed. This task was the Swedish company NCC, under whose leadership the first sod was completed in December 2009.

In June 2010, the locally -based food manufacturer Guldfågeln signed a contract with the operators from the use of the naming rights of the arena. The valid from 2011 contract ensures the company until 2017, the use of the name of the stadium and includes an option for an extension.

Location and facilities

The stadium was built in Bilen district, offering at football matches 14,000 spectators. In international matches, the capacity drops by the conversion of standing in seats to 11,800. All grandstands are covered. At concerts, 15,000 seats are available. Construction costs were approximately SEK 250 million. After the completion of the club Kalmar FF has left his previous stadium Fredriksskans.

Use

The Guldfågeln Arena in addition to the use as a home ground of Kalmar FF one of the seven venues for the European Football Championship Women 2013. Besides three group games, a quarter-final in Kalmar will be held. During the tournament, the stadium will be called Kalmar Arena.
