Gülsüm Tatar

Gülsüm Seyma Tatar ( born February 6, 1985 in Kars, Turkey) is a Turkish boxer. It was 2008 and 2010 world champion in the light welterweight.

Career

Gülsüm Tatar comes from a family in which there have been several boxers in front of her. Inspired it, they began as teenagers also with the boxes and turned out for this sport to be extremely talented. Coupled with their training diligence she was already at the age of 18 years to the best Turkish amateur boxers. In 2003 she became a member of the sports club Fenerbahçe Istanbul, where she was employed until 2010. 2010 changed after internal strife to Birlikspor Kulübü Kayseri. She is a student at the Sports Firat University.

The first result, which is known of her, is the 2nd place at the Ahmet Comert Tournament 2003 in Istanbul, where she almost lost the final at lightweight against her compatriot Meryem zeybek with 9:10 points. In 2004, she was with a victory in the final battle over Saniye Bitiriyor Turkish champion at lightweight. They then defeated in the final of Ahmet Comert tournament in the final the Russian Julia Nemzowa by points ( 21:8 ) and was in the same year at the age of 19 years in Riccione / Italy European champion at lightweight before Eva Wahlström of Sweden, Anna Kasprzak from Poland and July Nemzowa.

In May 2005 Gülsüm Tatar could at the European Championships in Tønsberg not defend their European title. She won there in lightweight while in their first fight about Beata Szabo from Hungary by demolition id 2nd round, but lost in the semifinals against Katie Taylor from Ireland on points. Here, however, their defeat came about only because of the slightly better auxiliary points for Taylor at equal points from 12:12. With Katie Taylor is Gülsüm Tatar then delivered in the following years a number of hot battles that ended balanced in the final result. At the World Championships in September 2005 in Podolsk Gülsüm Tatar came to victories over Hanan Abdelmonem, Egypt, Ashley Barnett from the United States and Mitchell Martinez from the Philippines. In the final battle, she had to the Russian Tatjana Tschalaja beaten on points and thus became Vice World Champion.

Something harmless she could hold for this poor performance then in December 2007 in the championship of the European Union in Lille, because she won this championship with victories over King Siwa from Poland and Eveline Coolens from Belgium.

A measure that paid off immediately, as they were then dried in this weight class in Liverpool with victories over Janina Bonordon from Germany and Kinga Siwa EU champion. In September 2008, she hit the Witch Cup in Pecs Klara Svensson from Sweden, Katie Dunn from Canada and Timea Nagy from Hungary and was the tournament winner.
