Guntis Džeriņš

Guntis Džeriņš (born 17 February 1985 in Madona, Latvia SSR) is a Latvian ice hockey player who is under contract with HK Zemgale in the Latvian Hockey League since 2010. His brother Andris is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Guntis Džeriņš began his career as a hockey player in the junior department of the HK Prizma Riga, for the first team, he was active from 2000 to 2003 in the Latvian Hockey League, and the Division B of the East European Hockey League. He also came in the season 2002/ 03 for the HK Vilki Riga in the Latvian Hockey League used. Then the winger moved to HK Riga 2000, by which he three times won the championship in three years. During this period he was in parallel for Riga in 2000 in the Belarusian Extraliga on the ice.

The 2006/07 season spent Džeriņš at SK Riga 20 in Latvia. He then accepted the offer by the MHC Martin, for whom he played in the Slovak Extraliga 2007-2009. He scored 27 goals in 111 games and had 34 templates. At European level, the Latvian national team won the IIHF Continental Cup with the MHC Martin in the 2008/ 09 season. The following season he missed due to injury completely.

For the season 2010/11 he received a sample contract with the newly formed Slovak club HC Lev Poprad from the Kontinental Hockey League, which did not take up the game mode. He also took part in the training camp of Dinamo Riga, but was not under contract. The 2010/11 season he started at HK Zemgale.

Internationally

For Latvia Džeriņš took at junior level at the U18 Junior B World Championships in 2002 and 2003, as well as the U20 Junior B World Championships in 2004 and 2005 in part. In addition, he was in his country's squad at the A World Championships in 2007 and 2009, and in the qualification for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
