Gustavo Matosas

Gustavo Matosas ( born May 25, 1967 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Uruguayan football coach and former player, who acted in the midfield. He is the son of football player Roberto Matosas, who was at the time of his birth at River Plate under contract.

Playing career

Association

His first professional contract was awarded in 1985 when Matosas CA Peñarol, for whom he played until 1988 and with whom he was in the years 1985 and 1986, twice in a row Uruguayan champion and 1987 Copa Libertadores won. In the subsequent World Cup final against FC Porto ( 1:2 after extra time ) he came on in the 46th minute.

In 1988 he moved for two seasons for CD Málaga in the Spanish Primera División. He then played for the Argentine giants San Lorenzo and Racing Club before he moved to São Paulo FC and for the second time the squad was a team that could win the Copa Libertadores.

Between 1993 and 1995 he spent in the service of UE Lleida and Real Valladolid two more seasons in Spain, then played five years at various clubs in South America and ended his active career in 2001 when Mexican Querétaro FC.

National

From his debut on 19 June 1987 to his last mission on 23 September 1992, he enters a total of seven matches (one goal ) for the national team of Uruguay. In 1987 he was involved in winning the Copa America in his hometown of Buenos Aires.

A trainer

Then Matosas began a career as coach. In early 2006 he was at Danubio successor to the successful working there Gerardo Pelusso and won the Apertura and Clausura Montevideanern the years 2006 and 2007 as well as the Uruguayan championship title of the season 2006/07. As part of his later career in Mexico, he led at the end of the 2011/12 season the club tradition León after ten years of abstinence in the first league back.
