György Gedó

György Gedó [ ɟørɟ ɡɛdo ː ] ( born April 23, 1949 in Újpest, today part of Budapest ), the Olympic champion in boxing and coach.

From 1957 he was a contestant in Bekescsabai Epitok Előre, from 1965 at Magyar Pamut and from 1967 at Budapesti Vasas. Until the final end he started in paper weight, or in the light flyweight. From 1968 to 1980 he competed in the Hungarian selection. As a first major success he achieved was in 1969 in Bucharest the title of European Champion, he was able to defend at the European Championships in Madrid in 1971. He was a member of the Hungarian delegation at the Olympic Summer Games 1968 in Mexico City, in 1972 in Munich, in 1976 in Montreal and 1980 in Moscow. He was Olympic champion in 1972 and thus acquired the 101 gold medal for Hungary in the history of the Summer Olympics. Eight times he won the Hungarian championship in 1968 and 1972, he was elected Boxer of the Year. From 1976 he served as head coach of the Association Boxer Boxabteilung Vasas. 1980 after the Olympic Games in Moscow, he ended the career as an active athlete.

After his retirement, he was CEO of Inner City hospitable economic enterprise, security guard Népstadions and a device company, and later from 1994 to 1995 Head Coach of Kordax SE in Eger. From 1996 he was an advisor to the Hungarian boxer Association.
