Rogelio Marcelo

Rogelio Marcelo García ( born June 11, 1965) is a former Cuban boxer. Marcelo was silver medalist at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1986 and the World Championships in 1989 and 1991, winner of the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1990 and the Pan American Games in 1991, Olympic champion in 1992.

Career

Marcelo was Cuban champion in the light flyweight (-48 kg). During the years 1989 and 1990

Marcelo's first international championships were the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1986 in Santiago de los Caballeros. Here he reached the final of the light flyweight, but had to focus on local heroes Jesus Herrera defeated (5-0 ). 1988 Marcelo won the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Guatemala City. The following year he took part in the first World Championships and reached after victories among others about Nschan Muntschjan, Soviet Union ( 23:20 ), the finale. In 1990 Marcelo unsuccessful at the Goodwill Games in Seattle, however, won the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico City. The following year he won the Pan American Games in Havana and won at the World Championships in turn the silver medal. Marcelo struck here in the semifinals Daniel Petrov, Bulgaria ( 29:19 ), but lost in the finals again against the American Eric Griffin ( 36:18 ).
