Geography

The eastern part of the velvet municipality was with the communities Bramstedt, Hagen and Wulsbüttel in the foothills of the Weser mouths Geest, which reaches heights of about 28 m between Wulsbüttel and Garlstedt. The central part with the municipalities Uthlede and Drifsethe passed into the Weser Marsch Easter Stade Region, the core of the community Sandstedt formed in the west of the velvet municipality. The western border of the velvet municipality formed the Weser.

The small tributary of the Weser Drepte flowed through the Municipality in central south-north direction, and finally flows along the border to the municipality Loxstedt the Weser, in which it flows near Dreptersiel.

Neighboring communities

The Samtgemeinde Hagen bordered on the southwest by the municipality Schwanewede and to the southeast by the city Osterholz- Beck Osterholz. To the southeast, the municipalities Lübberstedt and Axstedt joined the Samtgemeinde Hambergen that are also in the district of Easter wood. In the northeast, the municipality was Beverstedt. This belongs in the north as the subsequent unit community Loxstedt to Cuxhaven. On the opposite side of the Weser north-west lay the Municipality Urban land and southwest of the city of Brake, both of which are part of the district Weser march. The city Brake however had no common border with the Samtgemeinde Hagen, as the intervening Weser island Harriersand belonged to the municipality Schwanewede.
