The Hahnenkamm is as Jurassic limestone ridge one to 656.4 m above sea level. NHN high and about 20 km long north-western foothills of the Franconian Alb in the counties of White Castle -Gunzenhausen and Ansbach in Bavaria, Germany.

Geography

Location

The Hahnenkamm is located in the city square of Gunzenhausen in the north, white castle in the east, in the southeast and Treuchtlingen Wassertruedingen in the West. To the northeast it is bounded by the Altmühltherme, slightly southwest lies the through by the Wörnitz Ries; the latter separates Swabian Alb and Franconian Alb. From the Altmühltherme the Hahnenkamm rises 200 meters above the valley floor. The partially covered by deciduous forest ridge is part of the Natural Park Altmühltal.

The highest inhabited place on the Hahnenkamm is Auernheim, located on 634 m height and together with Hohenstein divides the rank to be the highest village of Middle Franconia.

The Hahnenkamm heard in the physiographic feature unit group Franconian Alb (No. 08), in the main unit Southern Franconian Alb ( 082) and the subunit Altmühlalb ( 082.2 ) for natural space Hahnenkammalb ( 082.20 ), with its landscape to the west over the north to the East in the main unit group Franconian Keuper- Lias - country (No. 11), in the main unit foothills of the Southern Franconian Alb (110) and in the subunit Hahnenkamm foreland ( 110.2 ) in the natural environment Hahnenkamm foothills ( 110.21 ) drops.

Reserves

( 1986 CDDA-Nr. 162621 31 ha ) nature reserves Stone gutter lie on or to the Hahnenkamm at Wolf Brunn ( CDDA-Nr. 82630; ; 1984 reported 6 hectares ) and book Leite Market Berolzheim. On the mountain ridge is also part of the protected landscape protection zone ( 1995 CDDA-Nr. 396115 1632.96 km ²) are located in the natural park Altmuhltal and the Fauna- Flora-Habitat area escarpment of the southern Franconian Alb ( FFH-Nr. 6833-371, 43, 24 km ²).

Economy

The Hahnenkamm is used mainly agricultural and touristic. A built to strengthen the local economy in the 1970s Bundeswehrkaserne ( Hahnenkamm barracks ) was closed as part of the planned reform of 2003. Also from this period dates, strengthen the tourism, artificial Hahnenkammsee at Hechlingen.
