Geographical Location

Dittenheim is located in the western region of Middle Franconia in Altmühltal at the foot of the Yellow Mountain. Cities in the area are Gunzenhausen (9 km), Treuchtlingen ( 16 km), and White Castle (15 km).

History

Dittenheim was settled in the early medieval times to the Frankish colonization. 1937 was found on the eastern edge of the village, an early-medieval burial ground, which was used from the second half of the 6th century until the beginning of the 8th century. The mass of finds dating back to the 7th century. The dead included, such as those in the neighboring cemetery of westheim obviously a strong elbgermanisch medium - German-influenced population that took Frankish burial customs in the 7th century. The cemetery contains 250 individual graves, including some cremations and burials three horses. Railway
