Haidong
Haidong (Chinese海东 市/海东 市, pinyin Hǎidōng Shì ) is a located in the eastern Chinese province of Qinghai prefecture-level city. The city government has its seat in the district Ledu. Haidong has an area of 13,161 km ² and approximately 1.48 million inhabitants ( 2004). In the north, bordering the city of the Autonomous District Haibei the Tibetans, to the east and south with the province of Gansu, on the southwest by the Autonomous District Huangnan the Tibetans and to the west by the Autonomous County, Hainan Tibetan and the prefecture-level city of Xining.
In the village Hongya the " community Shihuiyao Hui nationality" ( Ping'an county ) 1935 Gyatsho Tenzin, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama was born.
Administrative Divisions
Haidong is composed of a municipality, a county, and four autonomous counties. These are:
- Municipality Ledu (乐 都 区), 2821 km ², 290,000 inhabitants (2004);
- Circle Ping'an (平安县), capital: greater community Ping'an (平安 镇), 750 km ², approximately 110,000 inhabitants (2004);
- Autonomous County Minhe Hui and Tu (民和 回族 土族 自治县), capital: greater community Chuankou (川口 镇), 1780 km ², 370,000 inhabitants (2004);
- Autonomous County of Huzhu Tu (互助 土族 自治县), capital: greater community Weiyuan (威远 镇), 3321 km ², 370,000 inhabitants (2004);
- Hualong Hui Autonomous County (化 隆 回族 自治县), capital: greater community Bayan (巴 燕 镇), 2740 km ², 230,000 inhabitants (2004);
- Autonomous County Xunhua the Salar (循化 撒拉族 自治县), capital: greater community Jishi (积 石 镇), 1749 km ², approximately 110,000 inhabitants ( 2004).
