Haimhausen belonged to the Earl Butler of Clonebough. The village was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and seat of the closed Hofmark. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

The landscape painter Bernhard Buttersack came around 1895 to Haimhausen, attracted by the pristine moss landscape with its backwaters and the calmness and beauty of the place. In Ottershausen he had built a spacious house, with a painter 's studio to the north. Soon he opened a private art school that attracted many young artists. This will Haimhausen developed more and more concerned about an artists' colony, near the great artist colony Dachau. Of greatest importance to the artist colony Max Bergmann was, who worked more than 30 years in Haimhausen and there in 1925 opened a private art school. Schuler / inside of it were: Arthur Niso, Helene Harth, Alice Kruger and Hermann Koenemann. With the death of Paul Heritage extinguished the little artist colony.
