The Prussian Province of Halle- Merseburg was the Association of the German Empire from 1944 to 1945.

History

Through the " decree of the Fuhrer on the breakdown of the Province of Saxony " from 1 April 1944, the Prussian province of Saxony was dissolved as of July 1, 1944, to align the administrative districts in central Germany to the Reich Defense districts. From the administrative district of Merseburg the previous province of Saxony, the Province of Halle- Merseburg was formed during the administrative district of Magdeburg, Magdeburg became the province. The county of Erfurt was subordinated to the Reich governor in Thuringia.

Go to Upper president of the newly formed Province of Halle- Merseburg the Gauleiter of the NSDAP Gau Halle- Merseburg, Joachim Albrecht Eggeling, was appointed.

In July 1945, the Province of Halle- Merseburg was at the behest of the Soviet Military Administration ( SMAD) with the Province of Magdeburg and the State of Anhalt united to the new " Province of Saxony ", in 1946 renamed the "Sachsen -Anhalt province " and finally in 1947 in Saxony -Anhalt opened.
