Corruption scandal

The city has extended the mid-1990s their city in the form of a narrow strip to the nearby U.S. Highway 301. This was done with the intention to supplement the city finances by conducting speed checks on the route section in the urban area. The increasingly excessive inspections carried out, which together brought in solely in the 2010 to 2012 about 600,000 U.S. dollars, aroused resentment in population policy and the surrounding area. A government audit found among other serious irregularities in 2014 that the city could not provide accounting records and substantial sums of money were misappropriated. The extent of the violations and the inability of the city to put their management on a new footing, led to the government threatened to disband the city as a local authority.
