Strong is a city and also the county seat of Bradford County in the U.S. state of Florida with 5,449 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Strong is about 50 km southwest of Jacksonville.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 5,449 inhabitants distributed to 2,492 households. The population density was 291.4 inh. / Km ². 65.8 % of the population were white, 29.2% African American, 0.3% Native American and 1.1% Asian Americans. 1.0% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.6% in different ethnic groups. 3.8% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 30.4 % of all households lived in 32.4 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 63.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.47 persons and the average family size is 3.08 people.

26.7 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.9 % were 20-39 years old, 24.6% were 40-59 years old and 24.7% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 39 years. 46.7 % of the population were male and 53.3 % female.

The average annual income was $ 27,026, while 33.6 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 98.65 % of the population spoke Spanish and 1.35%.

Traffic

Strong is on U.S. Highway 301 ( SR 200) and the Florida State Roads 16, crosses 100 and 230. The nearest airport is Gainesville Regional Airport ( around 30 km south-west ).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 250 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were five robberies, 14 injuries, 23 burglaries, 215 thefts and five car thefts.
