Band History

Handsome Furs was created when Spencer Krug and Dan Boeckner - both songwriter and singer of Wolf Parade - turned towards other projects, to implement their own musical ideas better. Spencer Krug founded the band Sunset Rubdown, and Dan Boeckner and his wife Alexei Perry and writer duo Handsome Furs. Boeckner mostly plays guitar and sings, while Perry keyboard and drum machine operated. The idea to form their own band, Boeckner was first used in the winter of 2005, when he was experimenting musically in Vancouver along with Perry. Then were the two 2006, the offer to tour Scandinavia. Quickly, she wrote her own songs, rehearsed them together with cover versions and went on tour, but without having their song material published. The duo then played as the opening act for Arcade Fire, David Cross and Modest Mouse. The end of 2006 they signed to Sub Pop and recorded their debut album Plague Park in December. In the spring of 2007, the album was released in the U.S. and in Europe. The end of 2007, the duo was finally able to go on U.S. tour. Prior to their entry into the States had been prohibited for months. 2009 brought the Handsome Furs Face Control with out her second album. 2011 followed by Sound Kapital. On 17 May 2012, the band announced on its website the resolution of the Handsome Furs known.

Trivia

  • Handsome Furs (German handsome furs ) is the title of a short story that Alexei Perry had written shortly before the band's formation.
  • Plague Park (Eng. Pestpark, Finnish Ruttopuisto ) is the name of a park in Helsinki, on the grounds that several thousand dead of the plague were buried in 1710. Today this place is as an amusement park. The duo had become aware of the history of the park on their Scandinavian tour and later named as her debut album.
