Hannapes

Hannapes is a commune with 296 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Aisne in Picardy region. It belongs to the district of Vervins, in the canton of Wassigny and the Local Government Association thiérache d' Aumale.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Hannapes thiérache, 35 kilometers northeast of Saint- Quentin on the northern edge of the department of Aisne at the mouth of Iron in the Sambre -Oise Noirrieu and the channel that follows the Noirrieutal.

Neighboring communities of Hannapes are Vénérolles in the northeast, Iron in the southeast, Lesquielles -Saint -Germain in the south and Tupigny to the west and northwest.

History

Charles the Bald gave the former royal estate of his 845 follower and chronicler Nithard. Later, the property initially belonged to the abbey of Prüm, followed by the lords of Le Nouvion -en- thiérache and in 1137 the Premonstratensian abbey. In 1210, the abbey built a village. The manorial rights were transferred to the Duke family of the house of Guise. In 1462 John took over from Luxembourg the village after the castle was destroyed by the English in 1423. In 1650 the village was taken over by the Spaniards. The first local chronicle was published on March 8, 1888.

Throughout history, the spelling of the name has been changed several times. Thus we find in the past Anapia, Hanapium, Henappe ( on the map of Cassini ), Hannape, Hannappes ( this term is also at City Hall and on the lock plate) and currently Hannapes town sign. The notation differs from place Hannappes in the Ardennes, only 60 kilometers away.

Demographics

The population fluctuated over the centuries much. The largest number of residents is recorded in 1861 with 1137 inhabitants. 1766 156 fires were counted in situ, ie dwellings, which extrapolated equivalent to about 600 residents. Attractions

The Church of St. John ( Église Saint -Jean ) originates from the 13th century and is virtually unchanged since the 17th century. At the church entrance is about a 2 x 1 meter tall stone tablet, which is dedicated to the mayor Pierre François Moneuse ( 1762-1824 ). Hannapes has beautiful houses in thiérache style, a Müller- house made of bricks and stone, and three mills.
