Hans Appel

Hans Appel ( born June 8, 1911 in Berlin, † 27 July 1973) was a German footballer who plays as a player from Hertha BSC won the German championship in 1931 and 1933 to 1938 in the national team graduated five internationals.

Career

With the football he started as a pupil in the Wilmersdorf SC. The Hans used primarily as a defender ( " Johnny " ) Appel was a senior first for Hertha BSC, with the 1931 he won the German championship. With the Berliner SV 92 he won in 1936, 1938 and 1943 respectively the championship in the Gauliga Berlin -Brandenburg, and then participated in the final round of the German soccer championship.

Already with 18 years Appel played in Berlin (actually: Brandenburg ) selection and then wore the jersey with the Berlin Bear to 1940 a total of 106 times, the last years always as team captain this time very significant representative team.

From 1933 to 1938 he completed a total of five caps for the German national football team. He made his debut under coach Otto Reich Mink on December 3, 1933, his hometown in the 1-0 victory over Poland, in which propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels sat together with the Polish Ambassador Józef Lipski in the official gallery. Appel was reinforced by two players of Fortuna Dusseldorf, Paul Janes and Jacob Bender, the runner series. The fifth game in the DFB Dress on September 25, 1938 in Bucharest against Romania, now already under Sepp Herberger, he retired from the national team.

During the Second World War he joined 1942/43, as a member of the Air Force for the LSV eagle Tarnowitz, the surprise team in the Gauliga Upper Silesia.

After the war he played until 1952, still in the " wonder team " FC St. Pauli, who also Helmut Schön, Karl Miller, Walter Dzur and Harald Stender belonged among others. The veteran took with St. Paul in the years 1948, 1949, 1950 and 1951 four more times in the final round of the German Cup finals. No other player has ever over a longer period - have been used to playing in this competition - 21 seasons or 20 calendar years.

Following the active career Appel has also been successful as a coach. So he led, inter alia, the VfR Neumünster of the district league in the Football Oberliga Nord ( 1955). This became his team in the first season to favorites fright. Only Hannover 96 could boast to have won in Neumünster.
