Hans -Joachim Meyer ( born November 3, 1942 in Briesen in Bilin, Reich District of Sudetenland, German Reich ) is a former German football player and coach. He is currently a board member at Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Career

Playing career

Meyer fled with his family in 1945 from Bohemia to Roßleben and began as a teenager in the village südwestthüringischen team BSG Motor Dietlas to play football. At 14, he came in 1956 to train as a machinist to Suhl and joined the BSG Motor Suhl, whose first men's team was represented at this time in the fourth-class district league Suhl. As a player perspective Meyer was 21 years old in 1963 to become the first East German champion SC Motor Jena delegated, and at the same time started studying for sports and history teacher. A trainer

Hans Meyer earned his coaching diploma at the DHfK. On 1 July 1971 he became the youngest coach of the DDR Oberliga FC Carl Zeiss Jena, after he had previously been an assistant coach from Georg Buschner. With the Jena citizens he was three times fdgb Cup winner (1972, 1974, 1980) and reached the final of the 1981 European Cup Winners' Cup ( 1-2 against Dinamo Tbilisi ). As in 1983, the Jena team without a win was on second from bottom of the league after eight games, Meyer was fired after 12 years as a trainer at FC Carl Zeiss. Then he coached from 1984 to 1987 Rot-Weiß Erfurt, FC Karl- Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz FC ) ( 1988 to June 1993), again Jena ( October 1993-August 1994 ), the first FC Union Berlin (1995 ) and the Dutch first division side FC Twente Enschede ( January 1996-September 1999 ).

In September 1999, Meyer became coach of the then second division club Borussia Mönchengladbach. Meyer led Borussia 2001 back to the first league. He was thus the first football coach of the East German states, who ascended with a club from the West to the Bundesliga. Meyer resigned in March 2003 at his own request at Borussia Mönchengladbach, there were disagreements with some members of the press.
