Hans Moritz von Brühl

Hans Moritz Graf von Brühl ( born December 20, 1736, in Wiederau, † June 9, 1809 in London ) was a German ( the Electorate of Saxony ), diplomat, scientist and chess players in London, where he was known as John Maurice, Count of Bruhl.

Life

It comes from the Saxon- Thuringian nobility Brühl and was the son of Friedrich Wilhelm Graf von Brühl on Martin churches, castle and wait Bedra, the older brother of the famous Prime Minister Heinrich von Brühl. He and his cousin, Hans Moritz von Brühl bear the name of Hans Moritz.

He studied from 1750 to 1754 in Leipzig, where he found a father figure in Christian Gellert and was a friend of Johann Friedrich von Cronegk.

1755 he took over at the age of 19 years in Paris on diplomatic assignments,

In the fall of 1764 he was ambassador in London. In 1767 he married Alicia Maria Carpenter, Countess of Egremont, later Countess Brühl ( 1729-1794 ) and 1796 Maria Chowne.

HM Bruhl was a popular, often mentioned in the press patron of art and science - even socially a friend of the Enlightenment.

Establishing the Leipzig Economic Societät on May 26, In 1764 he was one of three honorary members - his reports and opinions to the "New Science ", the "State husbandry " ( Economics) were in demand.

Scientist

1765 was a member of the Royal Society of Bruhl, 1785 and honorary member of the Göttingen Academy. Chess players

"Count de Bruhl " was next Philidor, Verdoni and George Atwood one of the greatest chess player of his time, of which several parts have survived.
