Harbke

Harbke is a municipality in the district of Borde in Saxony -Anhalt.

Geography

The community Harbke is located directly on the border with Lower Saxony. It is located in the east- Lappwald a few kilometers south of the Lower Saxon Circle Helmstedt. The city is located about 20 km southeast Oschersleben. Through the village the main road leads 245a.

History

Harbke was first mentioned in 1040 and changed his name to " Hard Bike", " Hartbeke " and " Harpke " to this Harbke ( har = forest; bek = Bach). In 1308 Bertram and Ludolf von Veltheim took over the manorial system in place, thus establishing a trunk line, which was decisive for the next 637 years. Under their rule, the castle Harbke, the church, park and lust forest, and many half-timbered houses still preserved, arose.

1572 Upper Castle and Parish Church of St Levin was built. In memory of the builder, it was adorned with an epitaph, which shows Ahaz of Veltheim and his wife, Margaret of Saldern with 32 ancestral coat of arms. The tower was added in 1719.

In 1731, all the outbuildings of the manor were ( the former water castle ), with the exception of the living room of the castle destroyed by fire. The reconstruction took place from 1751 to 1759 by the braunschweigisch - Wolfenbüttel ducal master builder Martin Peltier de Belfort. In 1744 the first plantings in Harbker Castle Park, under the botanist Johann Philipp du Roi gained a great fame later began. During a visit in 1805 when Helmstedter university professor and wonder man Gottfried Christoph Beireis, the family doctor of the von Veltheim, was introduced to the castle to Harbke Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. 1842 was drilled at the instigation of Count Röttgermann Veltheim of the first lignite Bay in Harbke. At the entrance to landscaped park, built in 1572 Evangelical Church of St. Levin is a historically valuable and obtained 95% in original condition Fritzsche - Treutmann organ 1622 / 1728. The park harbors rare trees, including the oldest Ginkgo Germany, which was planted in 1758 and consists of two male parts, which are grown together in the root; wherein the rear trunk sits a female branch. The castle fell into disuse after 1945 and is now a ruin. The castle park is part of the project Gartenträume Saxony -Anhalt and 2007 was largely reconstructed.

The Orangery 1830/31 was built in the Gothic Revival style shared the fate of the castle. For several years, it is restored in the direction of the local monument association and houses since 2007 from spring to fall, a trip café. Nearby there is the "Chinese wall" with a sculpture of the Roman goddess of fruit trees Pomona. In 1909 the power station was put into operation Harbke. 1990, it was decommissioned, demolished later.

1936 Wulfersdorf was incorporated into Harbke, but the village was already a few years later the lignite mine victim and was demolished.

The coat of arms was approved on 24 November 1997 by the regional council of Magdeburg.

The colors of the community are red - silver ( white).

The branch corresponding to the family coat of arms of the lords of Veltheim as the owner of Harbke, the ears point to the agriculture in the region. Hammer and chisel are available for up to 1990 of mining. The black and white stripes indicate the two lines of the family of Veltheim whose achievements Harbke has shaped over centuries.

Religions

The Evangelical Church of St Levin, named after Lebuin, located at the Goethe Strasse ( see also " History" and " Harbke Castle "). It was built in 1572 on the foundations of the demolished church predecessor, and 1718/19 enriched with a bell tower. In the 18th century, the nave underwent structural changes. The Catholic Church of St. Joseph is named after Joseph of Nazareth. It was built in 1913 and is located at Mountain Thyme.
