Harkishan Singh Surjeet

Harkishan Singh Surjeet ( born March 23, 1916 in Jalandhar, † August 1, 2008 in Noida ) was an Indian politician of the CPI ( M).

He was from 1992 to 2005 General Secretary of the CPI ( M). Prakash Karat became his successor. From 1964 to 2008 Surjeet was a member of the Politburo. Surjeet was one of the founders of the first Politburo of the Party. He died on 1 August 2008 at a cardiac arrest at the age of 92 years. He was since 25 July 2008 on the treatment in the Metro Hospital in Noida.
