Silvertip ( Hasemania nana )

Hasemania is a genus of tropical freshwater fish belonging to the family of the Real tetras ( Characidae ). The genus was named after JD Haseman, a student of German - American ichthyologist Carl H. Eigenmann. The genus belongs to the silvertip ( Hasemania nana ), a popular freshwater ornamental fish. Hasemania species found in eastern South America from the Rio São Francisco to the Río Paraná ago.

Features

Hasemania species are 2.7 to 6.7 inches long. Your body is moderately elongated, the dorsal fin is short, the anal fin long. An adipose fin is absent. The caudal fin is bilobed. In contrast to the closely related genus Hemigrammus at Hasemania the base of the caudal fin is unbeschuppt.

Outer systematics

Hasemania is currently not assigned to any subfamily. The genus belongs with ten other genera monophyletic clade within a of the Real tetras referred to as Hemigrammus clade.
