The integrated municipality comprises the towns Drakenburg, Haßbergen, Rohrsen and Heemsen together with its local Anderten, Gades frets and light peat. Seat of the velvet municipality administration is Rohrsen.
History
The integrated municipality was established on June 1, 1969 due to the Lower Saxon regional reform.

The Samtgemeinde Heemsen is one of the largest asparagus growing areas in Europe.

Traffic Technically the Municipality is developed by the highways 209 and 215, a rail connection to the Hanover- Bremen no longer exists since 1978.
