Heinrich Carl Haussknecht

Heinrich Carl servant ( born November 30, 1838 in Bennungen; † July 7, 1903 in Weimar ) was a German pharmacist and botanist. His botanical author abbreviation is " Hausskn. ".

Servant was a pharmacist by trade and worked as an assistant since 1857 in Bremgarten, Canton Aargau, and Aigle, Vaud Canton. It dealt with the flora of the Swiss Alps and learned Pierre Edmond Boissier know.

Hausknecht graduated from the University of Breslau botany and pharmacy. In 1864 he finished his studies with state certification. Then he led from 1864 to 1869 a trip through Eastern Anatolia, Kurdistan and Luristan through Persia and the Persian Gulf. He discovered and charted antiquities and put on botanical collections.

In 1882 he co-founded the Thuringian Botanical Association. In 1885 he traveled together with Theodore of Heldreich northern Greece.

On October 18, 1896, he founded the herbarium servant. It was initially based in Weimar and is now part of the Institute for Special Botany, University of Jena.

Since 1889 he was a member of the Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.

The plant genus Haussknechtia Boiss. in the carrot family ( Apiaceae ) has been named in his honor.
