Heinz Edelmann

Heinz Edelmann ( born June 20, 1934 in Usti nad Labem, Czechoslovakia, † July 21, 2009 in Stuttgart) was an illustrator and graphic designer who has greatly influenced the international chart of the sixties and seventies.

Life

After studying at the Art Academy Dusseldorf he worked since 1958 as a freelance graphic artist. In his collaboration with Willy Fleckhaus he coined long critical twen the face of the youth magazine as an illustrator for over ten years. He also worked for Capital, Playboy, pardon and the FAZ magazine as a graphic designer.

Known to a wider audience, he was by the Beatles film Yellow Submarine, during its production, he 1967/1968 collaborated as Art Director. The leader of the ZDF series The fantastic film is also his work. For the Klett- Cotta Verlag, he designed numerous book covers, among other things, he designed the first German edition of The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien, translated by Margaret Carroux from 1969 / 1970. Also known are his numerous illustrations for Kenneth Grahame's children's book The Wind in the Willows.

Heinz Edelmann taught 1972-1976 Advertising Art in the Department of Design University of Applied Sciences Dusseldorf. After that, he was a lecturer in art and design at the Fachhochschule Köln ( Cologne factory schools ) and last until 1999 Professor of Illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart.

Heinz Edelmann died at the age of 75 years in a Stuttgart hospital.
