Heinz Lazek

Heinrich " Heinz" Lazek ( born October 17, 1911 in Vienna, † July 26, 1986 ) was an Austrian Boxer and European Champion in the light heavyweight and heavyweight.

Boxing career

The left arm was in the amateurs 1931 Austrian champion in the light heavyweight division and then became a professional. In his first 26 fights, he emerged as the winner 25 times, where he was able to prevail against the Swedish champions John Andersson and Olympic silver medalist Luigi Rovati from Italy and also successfully won the Austrian championship in the heavyweight division. He suffered his only defeat so far against the triple European and World Championship challenger Adolf Witt from Germany.

On September 17 1935 he won the European Championship in Vienna EBU light heavyweight against the Italians Preciso Merlo, who was defeated in his last fight Adolf Witt. In his first title defense, he defeated the Dutchman Rienus De Boer, who gave up the fight after the fifth round. After another title defense by technical knockout against the French master Emile Ollive, he pushed on September 1, 1936 in Vienna at the World Cup against the German Gustave Roth, subject to that, however, over 15 rounds on points.

In his next nine fights, he again remained undefeated and qualified for a new EBU EM- fight, this time in the heavyweight division. He was able to push through against Arno Kölblin from Germany, but lost in a subsequent non-title fight on points against Walter Neusel. This, however, he defeated in a subsequent European title defense. Furthermore, he was able to defend his belt against Sante De Leo and Karel Sys.

On March 17, 1939, he lost for the first time earlier by Ko and therefore also the European title to the German Adolf Heuser. In November, he also suffered a defeat at the point Arno Kölblin.

On November 3, 1940, he also won the title of German champion in the heavyweight division after he defeated Walter Neusel again. Then he struck again Preciso Merlo and Walter Neusel, it could also achieve a draw against Adolf Heuser. In a third meeting, he lost again by Ko against Heuser and ended his career after two more defeats against Olle Tandberg and Josef Weidinger in September 1950.

Lazek had a relationship with a Jewish woman and had a child with her. Through face meeting of the boxer Max Schmeling him but a prison sentence for " race defilement " was spared and he was instead drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1942, in which he served until the war ended.

His daughter Dorli 1961 was elected Miss Austria.

In 1995, the Heinz- Lazek Lane in Vienna -Danube town was named after him.

His grave is located at the Dornbacher cemetery in Hernals.
