Heinz-Ulrich Walther

Heinz -Ulrich Walther ( born March 11, 1943 in Stendal ) is a former German figure skater, who started in pair skating for the GDR.

Biography

Heinz -Ulrich Walther stepped up to the SC Dynamo Berlin. His first figure skating partner was Brigitte Woköck. With it, he was in 1962 and 1964 DDR champion in pair skating. Together they took part in two European Championships. At their debut in 1962 they were sixth and eighth in 1963. The Olympic Games 1964 in Innsbruck, she finished in tenth place.

In 1964, the couple separated and Walther ran from now on, along with Heidemarie Steiner, whom he married in 1969. In the years 1966, 1967, 1969 and 1970 they were East German champion. They took in the period from 1966 to 1970 at world and European championships. At the European Championships in 1967, 1968 and 1970, they won the bronze medal. Your only medal at the World Championships, they won bronze behind the Soviet pairs Irina Rodnina and Alexei Ulanov and Lyudmila Smirnova and Andrei Suraikin at the World Cup 1970 in Ljubljana. It was the first medal in pair skating for the GDR at World Figure Skating Championships. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Grenoble she missed a medal in fourth. Heinz -Ulrich Walther studied medicine and worked at the Charité in Berlin. He was, until his retirement academic staff at the Department of Orthopedics.

He also worked as an international figure skating judge and international technical inspector for the pair skating.
