Hello, I Must Be Going! is the second studio album by British singer Phil Collins. It was released on 1 November 1982 as a long-playing record, and in June 1988 as a CD.

Formation

After releasing his solo debut Face Value in 1981, Collins was dedicated in 1981 and 1982 primarily again his band Genesis. After completing a tour with the band it was for Collins at the time to continue his solo career with another album. He again teamed up for the production of the album with Hugh Padgham, who began working as a producer for Genesis in the following year and whose involvement has continued in all remaining publications of the Decade by Collins and Genesis.

Content

Similar to Face Value Collins processed on this album mainly its experience of the divorce from his first wife. Lyrically not fit into this scheme, the cover version of the Supremes classic You Can not Hurry Love, which became the biggest success of this album. In contrast to the other songs, the piece The Westside half is an instrumental.

About the name of the album Collins had from a song by Groucho Marx from the eponymous soundtrack for the film Animal Crackers inspired by the Marx Brothers. The album cover shows on blue background Collins in profile, his face can be seen on the left side of the cover.

Reception

The album generally received positive reviews. An example of this is the review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic, who said the album:

" [ ... ] While some of the material was successful, much of it did he Showed what quietly coming to grips with how to mate R & B techniques into his style; in retrospect, Hello, I Must Be Going! laid the ground work for his breakthrough album, No Jacket Required. "

And the album 3.5 stars out of a possible five stars rated.
