Helmuth von Maltzahn

Helmuth Baron of Malt tooth ( born January 6, 1840 in Gültz, Demmin, Pomerania, † February 11, 1923 Gültz ) was Chief Minister of the Prussian province of Pomerania in Stettin and member of the Reichstag.

Life and work

Helmuth Ludwig Wilhelm von Malt tooth, son of the chief administrative officer and manor owner Axel Freiherr von Malt tooth studied, after graduating law in Erlangen, Heidelberg ( member of the Corps Vandalia ) and Berlin. His professional career began in 1860 as Auskultator. In 1861 he was Superior Court clerk, in 1862 government clerk in Koblenz, 1866 Regierungsassessor. In 1867 he retired from the management of his own goods from the civil service. In the years 1868-1872 he built a neoclassical mansion with lock Gültz.

In the campaigns of 1866 and 1870/71 he took part as a cavalry officer. In 1871 he was a member of the German Conservative Party member of Reichstag ( MdR ) for the constituency of Anklam, Demmin and took over the chairmanship of the Budget Committee. The Reichstag, he was a Member of Parliament for the constituency of Stettin 1 - until 1888 ( Demmin Anklam ).

From 1888 to 1893 he was State Secretary in the Reich Treasury (comparable to a later Finance Minister).

In 1900 he finally took over the duties of President of the Upper Pomerania in Stettin and held that post until 1911. In 1909 he became hereditary marshal of Altvorpommern. He supported the establishment of the Historical Commission for Pomerania in the years 1910/1911 and was its first chairman.

In his biography of Theodor Heuss Dohrn rename it with the abbreviation " of Malt tooth Gültz ".

He was married since 1867 with Native castle in Anna Anna Rohrscheidt.
