Helvetinjärvi National Park

The Helvetinjärvi [ hɛlvɛtinjærvi ] (" Höllensee " ) is a lake in the Finnish landscape Pirkanmaa. It also forms the center of the eponymous Helvetinjärvi National Park ( Helvetinjärven kansallispuisto ). This national park was founded in 1982, 49.8 square kilometers extending between Ruovesi in the east, Virrat in the north, the National Park Seitseminen in the west and Kuru in the south.

The created 200 million years ago landscape with its rugged forests inspired in the 19th century poets and artists such as Runeberg or Akseli Gallén - Kallela. Biggest attraction of the park is the Crevice " Helvetinkolu " ( " Hell Gap" ), through which the visitor can reach a small hut and a swimming area on Lake Helvetinjärvi.

National Park can be reached either on foot via the footpath Pirkan Taival Ruovesi and Virrat or by private motor vehicle on a slip road of Ruovesi. The park has several small tent sites.
